Spitz is a small municipality located on a beautiful bay of Lake Thun. Owing to its geographical position, the place looks particularly beautiful in spring and summer, when the flowers bloom, all the surroundings are filled with lush greenery, and numerous vineyards start to blossom around it.

Spitz itself is not of much interest to tourists. It is an ordinary castle with small houses scattered around it. There is no old town and there is hardly any famous architectural sights with the exception of the castle.

 But people do not come here for the castle. Spitz’s main attraction for tourists is the beauty of its surrounding nature. So, if you are passing Lake Thun, be sure to visit this small place in a quiet bay. If you refrain from visiting the local museum, it will take you about an hour to see everything you need here. But if you order a taxi in Spitz, you can ride a few miles outside it to simply take in the surrounding wildlife.

How to Get There?

You can get to Spitz on one of the scheduled trains that run between Thun, Bern and Interlaken. It is highly probable that you will need to change trains in Bern. If you are flying to Zurich, you can order a transfer to Spitz, and get to the hotel in about 90 minutes. The train ride takes about the same, but you will have to wait for its departure.

Exciting Places

In addition to the above-mentioned Spitz castle, there is only one more attraction - a museum of wine and winemaking. You can find it right near the castle - the entrance is free and the exposition is devoted solely to the craft of winemaking.

 

  If you decide to go outside Spitz, there are plenty of places to see:

 

• Schloss Oberhofen. Perhaps the most beautiful castle among those surrounding Lake Thun. It was erected over 800 years ago, and had been under the control of Austria for a long time. Today, the castle is a famous tourist sight. It houses a children's chalet, as well as a medieval chapel;
• Modern Art Museum. Located in Wichterheer, its exposition includes dozens artwork of contemporary artists alongside several old paintings attributed to Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall;

·         Lake Thun. Being 11 miles long and over 2 miles wide, this body of water offers great opportunities for water sports. The shores of the lake are abundant with various kinds of entertainment, horse stables, golf courses, etc.

 You do not need taxi services in Spitz, but if you decide to travel outside it, a comfortable car will come in handy. Getting around Lake Thun is not an easy task, but it is certainly worth it.
