Montreux is a unique Swiss resort, known all over the world for being chic and exquisite. The municipality has a very mild climate, and is located near the waterfront of Lake Geneva, with views over the snow-capped Alps. An enormous number of boutiques, restaurants, cafes, hotels, sports centers and tourists - this is what the locals see every day. For out-of-town visitors, however, Montreux always seems like something completely new, unexplored and exciting.
Visiting Montreux is definitely recommended for those who are well-off financially. It is meant for those who value luxury life. There are not so many sights to see here, and for ordinary tourists the streets can seem like an endless circle of luxury hotels, restaurants and boutiques.
As to the architectural attractions, we can point out only the famous Chillon Castle, located near the city center. This castle is one of the most famous in Switzerland, and also an unofficial symbol of the country. It takes about 90 minutes to walk from the central station to the castle and back. Also, those who are not there for shopping might want to take a look at the monument of the legendary rock singer Freddie Mercury. The monument always has some flowers at its feet, no matter what time of the year it is. The leader of the band Queen chose Montreux as one of the cities for recording his songs. At the time he was attracted to the quiet comfort of this place. Today everything is a bit different.
If you wish to know more about the history of Montreux, you can visit the city museum, completely dedicated to the municipality’s development, the life of local residents, etc.
If you want to book a transfer to Montreux, the easiest way to do that is from Geneva. It will be much faster getting from there than from Zurich. For those who cannot book a taxi to Montreux, there are some options with trains. There are direct trains running from Geneva airport to Montreux every 30 minutes. The tickets costs 35 francs. On average, the trip takes about 90 minutes.
There are also direct trains departing from Lausanne that will get you there in 20-30 minutes depending on the train.
