Merligen. A Quiet and Cozy Resort on Lake Thun

Today’s Switzerland is rich in resorts and exciting cities. Some of them are large and noisy, characterized by a fast pace of the local life. Some, on the contrary, live in a calm and measured atmosphere. In any case almost every place in Switzerland has one common feature, and that is comfort and special charm. And if you make a top list of based on comfort, Merligen will definitely be in the lead.

Merligen. Quiet Place on the Shore of Lake Thun

Merligen is one of the smallest Swiss resorts. The village is located on the shores of Lake Tuna, in the heart of Switzerland. The village is German-speaking, and it is not only a unique resort, but it is also a transit point to many other Swiss cities and towns, like Thun, Bern, Lucerne, etc. And in order to get to the resort itself, you will either need to take a train to Zurich, or upon arrival at the airport, book a transfer to Merligen. Unfortunately, there is no local airport here.

One of Merligen's most famous sights is the Reichenbach Falls, where Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes supposedly died. There are regular tours to the waterfall and there is a monument on the mountain, where the legendary book detective died. You can also visit the city’ museum dedicated to the life of the book hero. Located in the building of a former English church, this museum gives you an opportunity to see the inside of Holmes's apartment on Baker Street in London with your own eyes.

Another point of pride is the canyon on the Aare River canyon. Not too deep, but having a unique texture, this canyon is one of the most beautiful in Switzerland.

And if you order a taxi in Merligen, and go to the neighboring Ballenberg, you can visit the so-called museum of the province. This museum displays an unusual exhibition - almost a hundred village houses and farms belonging to different regions of Switzerland in various times. You can go into each house to see how people lived in the province at a certain time.

A holiday in this quiet and cozy resort will provide you with plenty of joyful memories and emotions. First of all, you can shake off the hustle and bustle of a big city. This is a village where everything is accessible on foot or by bike. And if you order a taxi service in Merligen, the cab will take you anywhere you need in just 10 minutes.
